Keep the Pool and Pool Area Clean
Leaves, bugs and debris can contaminate swimming pool water if left to decay. Today there are a variety of pool cleaners available that make pool cleaning easy and automatic.
Clean the Filtration System
Maximise the efficiency of your cleaning system and prolong the life of your pump and filter by routinely cleaning the pool's filtration system.
Empty and clean the pump and skimmer baskets and all filter screens. Always check the pressure gauge and backwash the swimming pool filter if higher than normal pressure is evident or if there is a decrease in water circulation.
Keep the Pool in Good Condition and the Equipment Serviced
Preventative maintenance and upkeep is the key to a long, healthy pool life. Since it is a significant investment, prevention is the best policy when it comes to swimming pools. Check the skimmer and skimmer baskets for cracks and splits. Check plumbing and valves for wear and leaking.
Maintain Water Level at the Correct Height
Ideally the swimming pool water level should be sustained about half way up the opening of the skimmer. This is the level at which the swimming pool skimmer operates most efficiently. If the water level is too high debris may pass by the skimmer opening without being pulled in. If the water level is too low the skimmer can bottom out, sucking air into the system and possibly burning out the filter pump motor.
Keep the Water Chemistry Balanced
Balancing pool water controls stains, scale and corrosion. If pH or alkalinity levels are allowed to drift up or calcium hardness is too high, the water can appear cloudy and mineral deposits can build up on surfaces. Low calcium levels, high chlorine levels and low pH can cause corrosion, etching and pitting of pipes and equipment. Use the results of testing to balance the swimming pool. Adjust the total alkalinity first before adjusting the pH, calcium or stabiliser.
